The article is aimed at defining and substantiating the main strategic directions of meat market development, which should provide guaranteed access of the population to meat products in the necessary quantity and assortment. In the basis of formation of the basic ways of strategy of development of meat market a system approach should be used, providing representation of research object as a system. This is materialized by identifying the constituent elements of the control object, examining the meaning of nature and character of the relationships between them, as well as determining the effects that occur as a result of operation of the system. The basic directions and mechanisms for development of the market of meat and meat production have been generalized in the context of such objects of strategic management as goods and added value, part of which is created in the sphere of production of meat and meat products. Strategic directions of the market development in the article are divided according to the level of management at macro-, meso- and micro-levels.
