Abstract: The article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of innovation management in the context of international innovation activities and classifies it according to key criteria. The study substantiates the relevance of the topic, driven by global transformational processes, accelerated technological development, digitalization, and changes in the international innovation environment. It is found that effective innovation management is a critically important factor for ensuring the competitiveness of enterprises and countries as a whole, especially under conditions of uncertainty, crisis, and war. Special attention is paid to the analysis of recent scientific publications highlighting the key trends in the development of innovation management in 2023–2024. Promising research directions in the field of innovation have been identified as follows: digital transformation, sustainability, innovation ecosystems, artificial intelligence, and social innovations. It is found that the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) already significantly affects the efficiency of innovation processes today, particularly in the ideation phase. New approaches to cooperative management of innovation ecosystems proposed in the international scientific literature have also been discussed. The study proposes a comprehensive classification of types of innovation management according to seven groups of characteristics: by the nature of innovation activity, level of resource engagement, management approaches, types of actors, industry specificity, forms of innovation, and level of risk. Within each group, subtypes of management are highlighted with corresponding examples of application in the international business context. A separate section presents an adapted classification of innovation management that takes into account the realities of Ukraine during the full-scale war. The study examines new directions such as defense technology management, humanitarian, energy, digital, infrastructure, and social innovation management. The key challenges and opportunities facing the national innovation system during a period of wartime instability are identified. It is demonstrated that efficient innovation management under these conditions requires flexibility, resilience, collaboration with international partners, and adaptation of global experience. The article has both theoretical and practical significance, as it allows for a deeper understanding of the structure of innovation management, highlights the main approaches to classification, and proposes tools to enhance the effectiveness of international innovation activities.
Keywords: innovative management, international innovation activity, classification of innovations, artificial intelligence, strategic management, innovation policy, crisis management.
