Abstract:
The article examines current issues in the development of tourism and hospitality in European Union countries (using Germany as an example), allocating and analyzing both positive and negative trends in the sector. The research is based on an analysis of trends and problems in the development of tourism and hospitality, new conditions for travel development, expert conclusions on challenges, and possible directions for sector growth following recent changes and innovations in the European Union. Based on the analysis of current issues in Germany’s hospitality and tourism industry, it has been found that international tourism in 2025 has almost recovered to the level of 2019. However, recently, both positive and negative changes have occurred in the development of the hospitality and tourism industry. In particular, the following can be considered positive changes: a continued gradual increase in inbound tourism; in the context of the ongoing digitalization of the sector, regulations on the activities of large technology companies (online hotel booking platforms) were strengthened; booking statistics have shown a significant increase in the popularity of alternative vacation options in more favorable seasons – an increase in demand for off-season and winter travel; major changes in the hospitality sector in the European Union – a complete ban on the use of disposable packaging for certain types of products; the introduction of new travel rules in Europe – new border controls, tourist taxes, and behavior monitoring; promotion of a new model of travel agency work – independent travel consulting. Negative changes can include the increased vulnerability of air transportation amid growing global passenger traffic and the persistent shortage of qualified workers in the sector. The practical significance of the results lies in applying this experience to make well-founded long-term forecasts for the sustainable development of domestic tourism and the hospitality industry, as well as for analyzing problems and creating innovative competitive advantages for businesses in the sector.
