Abstract: The article discusses the prospects of developing recreation on water bodies in Western Ukraine through the introduction of innovative tourism formats. In light of the growing demand for relaxation in natural environments and the activation of urbanization processes, the importance of expanding hotel infrastructure, modernizing accommodation forms, and greening the recreational space is emphasized. The region has significant natural and recreational potential (rivers, lakes, mineral water springs, the Carpathian Mountains), but lacks developed infrastructure and accommodation facilities. The implementation of Blue Flag environmental standards is proposed to improve the quality of recreation when using water bodies and to safeguard the environment. The article examines modern accommodation formats: camping sites, glamping sites, eco-lodges, flotels, as well as rural and private households that can operate in accordance with ecological requirements and modern service. Attention is focused on the necessity of creating water sports centers aimed at active forms of tourism (kayaking, SUP, fishing, triathlon, sailing, etc.), equipped with complete infrastructure and informational support. As strategic measures, it is proposed to develop a State strategy for the development of water tourism, create tourist clusters, stimulate business, attract investments through PPP models, and introduce digital solutions (online booking, QR navigation, branding). Special emphasis is placed on the role of individual territorial communities in forming recreational infrastructure, organizing environmentally safe leisure, and involving the local population. The expected outcome is the preservation of ecosystems, an increase in employment, the development of sustainable water tourism and recreation, and enhancing the international appeal of the Western Ukraine region.
Keywords: water recreation, campings, glampings, flotels, Blue Flags, sustainable tourism, Western Ukraine.
