Abstract:
Transport infrastructure is one of the main elements of the economic system of any region, as it ensures the efficient functioning of the economy by creating conditions for the development of production, sales, and improvement of social infrastructure. The transport infrastructure includes transport vehicles and communications such as roads, railways, airports, ports, and other facilities that secure the movement of people and goods both within the region and between regions or countries. The economic essence of regional transport infrastructure lies not only in its physical composition and technical characteristics but also in its ability to contribute to the economic development of the region by reducing transportation costs, enhancing labor mobility, and integrating local markets into national and international economic systems. A successful transport infrastructure is a prerequisite for stimulating investments, developing small and medium enterprises, attracting tourist flows, and facilitating access to services and goods for the population. Therefore, the presented article examines the main features of modern regional transport infrastructure. The aim of the article is to determine the characteristics of the economic essence of regional transport infrastructure in the context of current transformational changes. The article applied the following main methods: analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, generalization, systematization, comparison, logical and graphical methods. It is emphasized that the economic essence of regional transport infrastructure lies in its ability to ensure the efficient functioning of the economic system at the level of a specific region. It plays an important role in the connection between production and consumption, contributing to the reduction of transportation costs for goods and services, optimizing logistics processes, and increasing market accessibility. The regional transport infrastructure serves as a foundation for the development of both domestic and international business, as it allows for the integration of the region into the national and global economic network. The development of transport infrastructure stimulates economic growth by increasing the mobility of resources, facilitating access to new markets, promoting tourism development, and enhancing social integration and the quality of life for the population. Therefore, understanding the economic essence of regional transport infrastructure, its role in regional development, and its efficient utilization is a crucial aspect for formulating economic development strategies at the local level, as well as for attracting investments and ensuring sustainable development of the regions.
